Baby Steps Has a Secret Cutscene You Can Only See By Skipping All the Other Ones
As players continue to explore the world of Baby Steps and discover the many secrets it has in store for its audience, one person found that skipping all the title’s cutscenes triggers a secret 28-minute cutscene where the developers sit down to discuss a variety of topics. Baby Steps was released on September 23 and is currently available on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Ahead of its release, developers Bennett Foddy, Gabe Cuzzillo, and Maxi Boch embraced the fact that Baby Steps is a literal walking simulator, as players are tasked with moving the main character’s legs individually. Exploring the world as Nate can seem awkward at first, but that’s all by design. Walking through Baby Steps‘ open world is the challenge, it is the puzzle, and it is the obstacle players need to overcome in order to reach the end. Each step comes with the danger of slipping or falling, which could lead to a minor or major setback. Likewise, the game rewards those who master its main gameplay mechanic, allowing them to reach new heights and discover unique collectibles.
Baby Steps’ Secret Cutscene Is 28-Minute Long
As pointed out by Cuttyflame on YouTube, players who manage to reach the end of the game while skipping every cutscene can look forward to receiving an extended dose of Baby Steps‘ signature humor. Once the player reaches the final cutscene, the characters Nate and Moose comment on how the player will almost certainly skip this one as well. Nate even goes on to say that “it’s not very respectful,” after which the two characters sit down together and discuss how much work actually goes into stepping into a voice booth to act out these scenes. The two even end up dropping character entirely to have a private conversation. Gabe Cuzzillo (the voice actor for Nate) and Bennett Foddy (the voice actor for Moose) begin to openly think of reasons why someone might skip the cutscenes in the game, suggesting that the player has possibly played the title previously or has children sitting nearby.
Bennett Foddy comments on how Gabe Cuzzillo skips through more cutscenes than anyone else he knows, suggesting that players skipping cutscenes in Baby Steps might be a bit of karma. Cuzzillo laughs, stating that he doesn’t skip cutscenes in Naughty Dog games and outright couldn’t skip the ones in Ghost of Tsushima. The chemistry between the two actors/developers is undeniable as they continue to riff in a way that feels similar to a podcast.
This secret cutscene is just one of the many ways Baby Steps stands out as a unique experience. If players would like to trigger it for themselves, they’ll need to skip about thirty cutscenes leading up to that final moment, which isn’t as easy as it sounds. In order to skip cutscenes, players will need to partake in mini-games that allow them to do so. While Baby Steps is an odd experience, many players seem to be enjoying their time with the title.
